It's Your First Birthday | A Letter To My Son

How am I even going to begin? There is so much I could tell you and still so much more in the world I don't even know about yet.
Right now I am sitting on the couch at your MiMi & Poppa's house; you're being content in "reading" The Itsy Bitsy Spider book and rolling around a miniature basketball.

Why has time gone by so fast?
That is a question you will ask yourself your whole life, and no one ever seems to have an answer that will satisfy. It's just life, son. Life goes by so fast. At first it might not seem like it, but one day you'll wake up in middle school and then in your senior year of high school and think "what happened?" All I ask and pray is that you spend your days trusting in God and remembering the sacrifice He made for you.

Remember your heritage.
Not just family heritage, but spiritual heritage. Learn about your great-great-great-grandparents and how they got into church and embrace it. Never be stagnant in your walk with God. Let your every breath remind you of what God has done for you and the relationship you've made with Him, and the home He has prepared for you in Heaven.

Love.
This is simple. Love unconditionally. Love your neighbor just as you love yourself. Love your family even more than that. Love God a million times more than that. Don't let the world's hatred steer you away from the love God has shown to you and the love he expects you to show to others. Love is so important. Love forms your relationships with friends, family and who you will marry. God's love known no boundaries & He expects you to love like Him.

Forgivness.
Forgivness is something that is hard for a lot of people to grasp. Don't be one of those people. I have had trouble with this in my past. Letting petty things keep me from growing in God and as a person. It's not worth it, trust me. Whoever said that thing, did that thing, called you a name...pray about it, pray for them and move on. As you grow up you will find that forgiveness is one of the biggest things you will have to learn and be able to do and not leave any strings laying around after. Forgive completely, leaving nothing to be questioned.

You are important and worth it.
Everyone goes through times in their life where they feel as though they aren't good enough, for anything. They aren't smart enough, strong enough, pretty enough. But you are. You are worth it and your matter. Jesus gave his life for you. The creator of the universe gave up HIS life so that we would have a chance at eternal life. That's huge. Not just that, but in your everyday life you need to remember that you were created for a purpose and that purpose is important. You are important, you matter, you are worth it. Don't let anyone else try to tell you, you aren't. They don't get a say. They don't determine your worth, Jesus does...and your worth has already been determined even before you  were born.

There will be so many hardships in your life, but remember that you were created to do great things. Love, forgive. Be there for others. Be kind and grateful. You'll do amazing things Joshy boy. Your dad and I just know it.

Happy 1st Birthday Joshua Roy.
