5 BIG Lies the devil WANTS You to Believe ||
This post is going to be a little touchy for me. Personally, I have had too any times where I did believe these lies. All of them. All at once. It was the lowest time in my life, I was struggling spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and that caused my attitude and my relationships to be greatly affected.
I don't want anyone to go through what I went through years ago. Being in a place where you feel as though you're in a rut and can't get out, or you've hit rock bottom and you try to climb back up the latter but fall down soon after you being. It's hard. I get it. I've been there more than once.
I hope this post will encourage someone today...not to believe these lies that the devil got me to believe...
1. This life offers nothing more than what you already have.
I cannot tell you how untrue this is. I believed it. The devil wants us to think that we don't have to strive everyday for greatness. He wants us to believe that what we are living for doesn't matter, that everything we want doesn't matter, because the life we are living has absolutely no meaning. But it does! When we live for God; the one who created it all...our life DOES have meaning...we HAVE A PURPOSE. God didn't make us to take up space on earth and do nothing else...He created us for greatness...his plans for us are great. The life we live for him, to honor Him is great.
- Jeremiah 29:11 NLT "For I know the plans I have for you," Says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
- Philippians 4:19 "And this is the God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus."
2. You will NEVER amount to anything.
I'm going to put a pin in this one right now. This was one of the biggest lies I believed in high school when I was going through this dark time in my life. Man. Never amounting to anything...this is truly something that I believed about myself. Whatever I would have done, it wouldn't have worked. What I was doing for the church wasn't worth it...because I wouldn't be doing anyone any good to continue. I wouldn't be doing myself any good to continue...for reason #2 alone. I wouldn't amount to anything.
That isn't how God sees us though. He has given us instructions in His Word to follow so that our lives will be meaningful and that we will amount to something. It isn't about how popular we are (which I thought thats what is was aaalllll about..) it's about doing God's work and humbling ourselves to learn and walk in the path God has laid before us. If we follow Him and listen to his instructions, we WILL amount to everything He has placed in our lives.
- Psamls 32:8 NLT.. The LORD says, "I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you."
3. Put your pleasures first, and everything will work out.
I have to laugh at myself for believing this one. I was selfish to believe that putting myself first, before God and His will would actually be a good idea. It wasn't. Not only was I selfish, but I was also dishonest. I was more concerned about what I could do and how I could do it than what God could do and how He could do it.
It didn't matter what it was, work, school, church...I was worries about me, me, me. How much money I could save to get the clothes, or the shoes...remind you...I was in high school, so my priorities weren't where they are now. I didn't realize that putting myself first would tear me apart...it ripped me from any kind of relationship that I had made with God. Proverbs 28:6 "Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and rich."
I know that verse is widely used about money...but it can be used in other parts of our lives. Rich with friends, obsessions, idols, property...I would rather be poor with all of those and be the most honest version of myself than have everything and be the worst person I've ever been...is all of that worth it to you?
4. You aren't worth it.
2 Peter 1:3 NLT "By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence."
I put the scripture first to let you read it before I rant. Why would God...the all mighty King of Kings give us everything we need to live a Godly life...if we weren't worth it? God knows the end from the beginning. He knows there will be people who accept him and those who don't. But he made a way for us despite knowing all of this. We have received all of his glory by coming to Him and knowing Him. He thought YOU were WORTH IT.
He gave his life for YOU and for me. The all mighty one, who sits on the throne of the universe...God of the heavens and the earth...died so that we would have a chance at eternal life and live life more abundantly through him...I think that calls for this lie to be completely thrown out the window. You are worth it. God thought you were worth it.
5. God doesn't love you.
I could have squished this lie into the 4th one...but I wanted it to be it's own. This lie is very, very popular among people. They just don't believe that God loves them. Wether it's because of a loss or a tragedy...they automatically assume it's because God doesn't love them.
If God did not love us, he wouldn't have given us a way to be saved and to live eternally with Him. He wouldn't have given us the Bible to learn from and let that be our guide. He wouldn't have poured his spirit out in the book of Acts in the upper room. He wouldn't allow us to choose to live for him or not.
- Romans 8:35-37 "Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, hungry, destitute, in danger or threatened with death? NO, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loves us."
Why would a God who doesn't love us offer us "overwhelming victory"?!
If someone you know says they don't love you...do they still do things for you? Would they still offer you a place to stay? Would they still protect you? Theres a big possibility that the answer to all of these questions would be "No". Why? because that's just how us as humans are. We naturally won't care for someone like we love them if we don't actually "love" them.
bug God is not that way. He is our help in time of need. He is the one we can turn to when we have a rough day at work or our kids won't listen to us...He loves us and wants to hear from us. He wants to be our help...he wants us to want him. Even when we have sinner and gone against him, lied to him...left him behind. He still wants us...after all of that. He still wants YOU because that's how much he LOVES you.
