Jesus, I’m Yours: Day 5
“For I am the Lord your God. You must consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. So do not defile yourselves with any of these small animals that scurry along the ground. For I, the Lord, am the one who brought you up from the land of Egypt, that I might be your God. Therefore, you must be holy because I am holy. “These are the instructions regarding land animals, birds, marine creatures, and animals that scurry along the ground. By these instructions you will know what is unclean and clean, and which animals may be eaten and which may not be eaten.””
Leviticus 11:44-47 NLT
“But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.””
1 Peter 1:15-16
God’s Holiness.
In Leviticus 11:44-47 God is telling the Israelites how to separate themselves from things that are unclean.
But most importantly he is commanding them to separate themselves and to be holy.
But most importantly he is commanding them to separate themselves and to be holy.
What does it mean to be holy?
First off, because God is holy, we then cannot be holy if we do not have God’s spirit in us.
Because we are carnally minded (selfish) and sinful from birth, we have no intellect of holiness if we do not have His spirit living inside of us to lead us to the example.
Not only is that call for holiness in the Old Testament scriptures, but also in the New Testament.

In 1 Peter 1:15-16 we see another command from God telling us to be holy for he is holy.
Going deeper into this, holiness isn’t just a physical separation from things that aren’t Godly.
It’s more importantly a spiritual separation.
We have to separate our heart and mind from things that will lead us down the wrong road.
We have to seek after God daily and submit to His word that tells us how to live.

How can we be holy if we still allow certain people to tempt us into sinning.
If we allow the movies we watch or music we listen to sway us from our devotions to God?
It’s a daily fight.
We have to separate ourselves everyday from the things that will weigh us down and keep us from going further in our relationship with God.
God commanding us to be holy for He is holy seems like an impossible task.
But he has given us the tools we need to try as hard as we can.
The Bible is our guide to learning new things about Him and knowing how to live and how to act to be like Him.
He has called us to be separate so we can reach the world and help to bring others to Him.
If we are like everyone else in the world, how can we show them that having Jesus in our lives is beneficial? It would be impossible.
They wouldn’t want to change or repent because they would think "what would it change? "
If us as Christians don’t take this call to be holy seriously, then how will we help the lost?

Strive everyday to be like Jesus.
He has given us the ultimate guide of what to do.
He won’t leave us in the dark and keep us wondering what to do next.
He’s there and he wants us to be like Him.
