Jesus, I’m Yours: Day 1
This is a 5 day devotional series meant to help draw you closer to God and realize your full potential. 5 days of devotion is all we need to spark something in our soul.
Day 1: God’s Love
Day 1: God’s Love
“But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”
1 John 4:8-10 NLT
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10 NLT
“Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.”
1 John 5:3-5 NLT
“The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation,”
Psalms 12:6-7 NLT
In all of these scriptures we can see that God is love.
But what is love?
Love is defined as a feeling of deep affection.
When you think of loving your children, how does that make you feel?
When you think about your children doing something wrong when they know they shouldn't, how does THAT make you feel?
God loves us more than we could ever love anyone else. When we know our children are doing something they shouldn't, we desperately want them to change their ways and do the right thing. This is how God feels towards us, but with a deeper meaning. In 1 John 4:8-10 we can see that God is love and if we do not love we do not know God. This can be in a matter of things in our lives.
But looking at the next scriptures, Isaiah 41:10, God tells us to not be afraid because He is always with us to help us and strengthen us. He WILL hold us up with His VICTORIOUS hand. We have to remember that in our lives through the struggles that we have and the horrible thoughts that the devil puts in our minds, God has already won all of our battles. He KNEW you would go through this, he KNEW how strong you would be and he KNEW that he would need to be there to help strengthen you. And because he already knew all of this, before the world began, he had already won this battle. No matter how big or how small it might be, HE has won it.
Think about this, if you were on a sports team and you already knew that in the end you would win, wouldn't you have a different mindset going onto the field? “We have already won, there's no need for me to be worried about the outcome.” That's how we need to approach the battles in our lives. God loved us enough to look ahead and fight the battles for us. To die on the cross for us and give us an opportunity to live eternally with him. That's the ultimate sacrifice and the ultimate love.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for winning my battles before I knew I would go through them. Thank you for always loving me no matter what I'm going through and thank you for loving me enough to hold me up and strengthen me. I pray that you would continue to keep your protecting hand over my life and I pray that whatever the devil throws at me that your amazing power and your blood would be flowing over my mind, heart and soul. Most of all, thank you for loving me and knowing who I am, because I am yours. Amen.
